What kind of photo should I include on my resume?

Please prepare a photo where you are wearing neat and presentable clothing, such as a suit, against a simple background.
In Japan, the photo on your resume is one of the key factors that influences the impression made during the screening process.

1. Clothing
We recommend neat and presentable clothing such as the following:
・A suit
・Simple clothing, such as a white shirt

2. Background
Choose a background that is as simple as possible.
・A plain white or blue background
・A bare wall with nothing in the frame

3. Expression
Aim for a natural and composed expression.
・A serious and neat expression
・A slight smile (it is generally customary not to show your teeth)

4. Photos to Avoid
Please avoid the following types of photos:
・Selfies
・Photos with a hat on
・Photos with sunglasses on
・Photos with flashy accessories
・Photos with poses 
・Photos taken while traveling or outdoors
*We recommend using a recent photo taken within the last three months.

If you’re unsure, it’s safest to use a photo taken at a photo booth or a professional photo studio.
