Are there any points to keep in mind when changing jobs?

Changing jobs may be possible in some cases, but the conditions and precautions vary significantly depending on your status of residence.

You can change jobs as long as it is within the same field (job category).
Examples: Food Service Industry → Another Food Service Industry / Nursing care → Another nursing care facility
If you wish to change fields, you must pass the Specified Skilled Worker examination for the new field.
Additionally, the new employer must meet the acceptance criteria and provide the necessary support system.

[Technical Intern Training Program / Employment for Skill Development]
As a general rule, you cannot change jobs for the first year.
However, a change may be permitted if there are unavoidable reasons, such as the company’s bankruptcy or a serious problem.
In such cases, consult your Supervising Organization for the Technical Intern Training Program or your Supervising and Support Organization for Employment for Skill Development.

You may change jobs as long as the job duties fall within the scope of your status of residence.
Examples: IT Engineer → IT Engineer at a different company / Interpreter → Interpreter at a different company
*Changing to a job unrelated to your status of residence or one focused primarily on simple manual labor may constitute a violation of your status of residence.

[General Precautions]
When you leave a company or join a new one, you must notify the Immigration Services Agency of Japan within 14 days of each event.
Failure to complete this procedure may affect the renewal of your status of residence or future applications.
