What procedures and preparations are required when moving?

When moving, you’ll need to complete three sets of procedures: “housing,” “city hall,” and “utilities.”
Understanding the process in advance will help ensure a smooth transition.

First, notify the property management company or landlord of your current residence of your move-out date and sign a lease for your new home.
Be careful—if you delay this notification, you may still be charged rent after you’ve moved out.

Next, complete the address change procedures at city hall.
Submit a “Notification of Moving Out” at your current municipality, and submit a “Notification of Moving In” at your new municipality within 14 days of moving.

You’ll also need to arrange for the disconnection and reconnection of utilities such as electricity, gas, and water.
It’s best to prepare these in advance so they’re ready for use on moving day.

When handling these procedures, be sure to bring your Residence Card (and My Number Card, if you have one).
